Originally from India, Kurush received his education from a prestigious management school in his home country and has had a diverse career at prominent organizations, navigating through significant changes. After completing a degree in Commerce in Chennai, he became a Chartered Accountant and excelled in all three qualifying exams. He then pursued an MBA at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, focusing on finance, which provided him with knowledge of the latest business concepts, opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from diverse educational backgrounds, and the chance to develop problem-solving and communication skills. Kurush's professional journey began in 2003 when he joined Lehman Brothers in Tokyo after completing his MBA. He was chosen to be a part of their Interest Rate Strategies Team, which gave him his first international corporate experience, the opportunity to apply his financial expertise in real-world situations, and a culturally enriching experience. In 2005, he moved to Lehman in New York. He served on their award-winning Interest Rate Strategies team until 2008, managing a diverse portfolio of products such as US Government Bonds and Interest Rate Derivatives. During this time, he established a strong reputation among Lehman's US clients, including central banks, mortgage companies, and pension funds, and played a significant role in the team's growth. Following the financial crisis in 2009, Kurush made a career change and joined Morgan Stanley, a top oil-trading firm, where he worked on their US gasoline and diesel physical trading team. He contributed to developing analytics, collaborated with traders to create profitable strategies, and gained valuable experience in physical and paper gasoline trading. In 2014, he joined Freepoint Commodities as the lead refined products analyst. In 2022, he expanded his expertise to include renewable fuels and feedstocks, such as ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuels, and US soybean oil. Throughout his career, Kurush has demonstrated a strong interest in recruiting, mentoring, and training junior colleagues, guiding them in their professional growth. He takes pride in seeing them progress into senior roles at reputable organizations. He also enjoys reading non-fiction, politics, and traveling, taking him to various destinations rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. In 2009, he had the unique opportunity to produce a low-budget feature film set in New York, collaborating with a team of inexperienced co-creators. The film was released in the US to moderate critical and commercial success. Committed to giving back to the community, Kurush actively supports multiple charities focused on hunger, refugees, legal aid, and the environment. Throughout his career, he has also been interested in recruiting, mentoring, and training junior colleagues, guiding them in their professional growth.
